Old School
Public Health England’s A whole school or college approach to promoting children and young people's mental health and wellbeing isn’t the first of its kind, it captures the fundamentals and principles of models such as Angie Hart’s 'Resilience Framework' London’s 'Healthy Schools Programme' and Anna Frued’s Mentally Healthy Schools.

Since 1998
The World Health Organization recommended a Whole School Approach to Health Promotion in 1998, yet we have not systematically adopted the WSA.
There is a clear commitment to the Whole School Approach and its benefits for pupil mental health and wellbeing.

Ofsted 2019
In 2019, a new education inspection framework was introduced to cover early years’ providers, state-funded schools, some independent schools and further education and skills providers in England. The Ofsted framework requires Ofsted inspectors to routinely assess and report on pupils’ mental health and wellbeing under the key judgement area of personal development. This includes aspects such as resilience, confidence, independence, and how to keep mentally healthy.
